User-adaptive configuration of complex services

The sales of configurable products and services on the Web is challenged by the complexity of the configuration systems assisting the specification of the items to be purchased. To face this issue, we propose the development of user-adaptive configuration systems, which help the user in the selection of the features to be set, and personalise the presentation of the solutions. This paper presents an intelligent user interface for the management of personalised configuration in business-oriented domains. The system assists the user by suggesting suitable choices and providing her with information about the products/services to be configured. Our approach integrates user modelling and personalisation techniques with constraint-based configuration and is applied within the CAWICOMS workbench for the development of adaptive Web-based configuration systems.
