Recycled Compounds Brought Back to Prime Physical Properties

As you have seen while watching the history channel the evolution of an industry starts with an idea and hopefully profits from it. Next, other companies start up to get their piece of the profits. In Plastics we have gone past this point and a new profit monster has come after us called the global market place using the same processes but with much lower labor rates. Within the North American Plastics Industry, processors are being consolidated as competition has reduced profits and growth comes from buying up the competitions customers and consolidating/selling off their manufacturing. Example would be: one company starting out as an Injection molding, now adding: profile extrusion, full assembly, mold design, tool making, coating, metalizing, world distribution and resin specifications; with "some" already making their own resins. In today's market companies will have to increase the amount of recycle they use and buy less high priced resin. Within engineered resins, like Nylon, PBT or PC, bringing recycle back to prime costs about $0.74 per lb versus purchasing the engineered resin with a cost of about $1.37 per lb. Compounders have been doing this for years, some good and some bad; but they have also been declining in numbers. What would it take to add or increase recycle content? Are you ready and what are the tricks?
