Study of Holographic Storage Properties of Sc:In:Fe:LiNbO_3 Crystals

Doped Sc_2O_3 with 0.5mol%, Fe_2O_3 with 0.03wt% and In_2O_3 with various concentrations of 0mol%, 0.5mol% and 1mol% in congruent LiNbO_3, the Sc(1mol%):Fe(0.03%):LiNbO_3 crystal, Sc(1mol%):In(1mol%):Fe(0.03%):LiNbO_3 crystal, and Sc(1mol%):In(2mol%):Fe(0.03%): LiNbO_3 crystal were grown by the Czochralski method for the first time. The infrared transmittance spectra were measured to study the structure and defects of the crystals. The photo damage resistance ability of the samples was measured by the focula distortion method. The mechanism of OH~- absorption peak shifting and the improvement of the photo damage resistance ability was discussed. The photorefractive properties such as the writing time, erasure time, diffraction efficiency, dynamic range and sensitivity of the samples were experimentally studied by using two-beam coupling. The results showed that the dynamic range and sensitivity of Sc (1mol%):Fe:LiNbO_3 crystal were the highest among these samples.
