Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and high-resolution X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements were performed on a melt-quenched Ni_(81)P_(19) amorphous alloy and on its nanocrystalline version obtained by isothermal annelaing. The average grain size was derived from XRD line broadening. From the DSC measurements, the heat evoled during the amorphous-crystalline, amporphous-nanocrystalline and nanocrystalaline-crystalline transformations were determined. An isothermal annealing of the Ni_(81)P_(19) amorphous alloy, performed 30 K below the peak temperature of the amorphous-crystalline transfrmaton resulted in a grain size of about 10 nm.
