The Mechanically Activated Self-propagating High-temprature Synthesis (M.A.S.H.S) process provides an attractive practical alternative to the conventional emthods of producing nanocrystalline intermetallic compounds. This process is mainly the combination of a mechanical activation, where pure elemental powders are co-milled inside a planetary mill with fixed shocks energy and frequency during a short time folowed by a Self-propagasting High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) reaction. Once ignited with an external source, these reactions become elf-sustained and propagate to completion witin seconds.
