Ancient civic palace of Saluzzo: strengthening works

Within the framework of a project for the restoration and functional upgrading of the Ancient Civic Palace of Saluzzo, in the course of the works performed in 1998 under the guidance of architect Marco Tanga, the authors were asked to investigate the causes of static damage and to draw up the strengthening project. The drafting of the strengthening project was preceded by a series of analyses carefully planned out in order to determine the probable causes of deterioration of the building. The analyses supplied sufficient data to formulate an interpretation of the structural behaviour of the Palace and to draw up the strengthening project. The principles underlying the project's basic guidelines were dictated by the need to renovate the integrity of the building by eliminating the primary causes of structural damage without resorting to invasive methods and with the objective of restoring the functionality of the bearing structures.
