Kashima Steel Works No2 Steelmaking plant of Sumitomo Metals Industries, Ltd, has been using monolithic lining at sidewall of a molten steel ladle since 1990. From then, refractory cost was decreased 64 percent by application of alumina-magnesia monolithic refractory, relining process for sidewall repair, and monolithic lining to a bottom part, and so on. Our effort shall be carried on for further improvement of the castable material, repair method and usage, aiming at less cost of refractories, less burden on the works and global environment.
