Phenolic resin / boric acid composites were prepared from phenolic resin and boric acid in ethanol. The effect of the amount of boric acid and the heat treatment temperature of the composites on oxidation resistance were examined. The oxidation resistance of the composites was improved when the amount of boric acid was more than 10 mass%, with increasing in the heat treatment temperature. Graphite powders were modified by 0 ~ 2mass% of the phenolic resin / boric acid composites. Both the oxidation resistance and water wettability of the graphite powders were improved with increasing in the modifying amount of the phenolic resin / boric acid composites.
