Geological features and origin of the Xiaoyingpan gold deposit, northwestern Hebei, China

Located 200-km northwest of Beijing in Zhangjiakou area, northwestern Hebei province, the gold deposit of Xiaoyingpan is one of the most important ones in China. It was discovered in 1965 by a local geological party. Exploratory drilling has defined a resource in excess of 50 tonnes of gold with a grade range of 2 to 154g/t. By now, about 1,000,000 ounces (～30 tonnes) of gold have been obtained from the deposit. Although located in high-grade metamorphic rocks of Archaen age, its origin is probably related to alkaline magmatism in late Paleozoic times.
