In typical video delivery systems offering various video services (HDTV, dedicated video stream for each customer, etc.), service should be nearly immediate and continuous. A true Video-on-Demand (VOD) system can provide these type of services by reserving sufficient buffering area and server resources for duration of the playout. In this paper, we introduce some protocols as architecture of VOD system that can be used for servers of various dimensions. We propose novel scheduling schemes for operation of the shared buffer that aims at increasing buffer utilization. The performance of various scheduling schemes in VOD system are simulated and compared.
