Estimating the starting point for substantial wind energy penetration in the greek market

The time evolution of the governing parameters, concerning the economic viability-attractiveness of a wind power plant in Greece, is included in an integrated cost-benefit analysis. The main effort is concentrated on obtaining a reasonable explanation for the surprising time-lag of the local wind energy market, despite the favourable conditions, e.g. excellent wind potential, high electricity production cost, state subsidization, new legislation frame-market liberalization. In the proposed analysis the time evolution of the pay-back period and the ten-years economic efficiency of a typical wind farm is investigated, assuming that the investment starting point variates between 1985-2005. According to the results obtained, the significant delay of the wind energy applications is satisfactorily explained and the expected starting point for substantial wind energy penetration in the Greek market is realistically predicted.
