Effect of Steam Demand on the Operation of a Biomass-Fired Cogeneration Power Plant

The amount of process heat which affects the operation condition of a biomass-fired cogeneration power plant was studied. The operating modes under the investigation are the full (81.9 MW) and partial boiler loads. At a process heat of less than 16.53 MW, the turbine is over the design capacity (24 MW) if operated under the full load condition. In the partial load operation, there is a limit value of the process steam demand for each electricity generating capacity so that the boiler does not exceed its maximum thermal load. For the electricity outputs of 22, 23, and 24 MW, the maximum allowable process steam are 25.67, 21.09, and 16.53 MW, respectively. The maximum possible cogeneration efficiency is 64.63 percent when the power plant is operated with the partial boiler load generating 19 MW electricity and 30 MW steam. But financially the power plant should be operated wikth the full load mode.
