Strategy for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting with Xenon CT Scanning In Patients with Cerebrovascular Disease

Background: Off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting should be used only for the patient who must avoid extracorporeal circulation, as its long-term results are unclear and it sometimes needs incomplete revascularization. Therefore, we developed a strategy to detect the true cerebral ischemia by using Xenon computed lomographic scanning with an Acctazolamide tolerance test to avoid ovcrcstimation.Methods: Between January 1998 and December 2002, 397 patients underwent simple coronary artery bypass grafting (including 110 who underwent the off-pump procedure) in our institution. Patients at high risk for cerebrovascular accident underwent further testing with Xenon scanning.
