Cardiovascular risk in persons with prediabetes

Russia ranks fourth with regards to number of patients with diabetes (by IDF data) and the prevalence will reach 9% [1].Registered prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) among adult population in Russia makes about 3%, and the prevalence of the early glucose metabolism abnormalities (impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) is investigated insufficiently.Early glucose metabolism impairments not only increase risk of T2DM but also increase risk of cardiovascular diseases [2, 3].Aim of the study: To assess relative risk (RR) of T2DM, overall and acute cardiovascular mortality and cardiovascular events in persons with IFG and IGT and the prevalence of T2DM, early glucose metabolism abnormalities among the adult population (> 18 yrs) of Moscow County.
