An association between type II sPLA2 and Lp(a) has recently been observed. However, a thorough multivariate analysis was mandatory to confirm this relationship. Aims: To study the relationship between type II sPLA2 and age, sex, classical and emergent risk factors and biomarkers. Methods: N=144 with moderate-high CV risk. S-PLA2, Homocysteine, Lp(a), Resistin, Adiponectin, IL-6, TBARS (muM/L), oxLDL, Nitrotyrosine and ADMA were measured. Results: In univariate analysis sPLA2 was associated with female sex, age, diastolic BP, Lp(a), TBARS, resistin and adiponectin. In multivariate analysis female sex and Lp(a) plasma levels were independently and positively related to sPLA2. Conclusions: Female sex and elevated Lp(a) plasma levels are related to higher type II sPLA2 plasma levels.
