A Single Centre Experience of Left Main-Stem Angioplasty Using the Endeavor~(TM) Stent

Background: So far, no data is available about the Endeavor~(TM) stent (Medtronic Corp., USA) in unprotected left main-stem stenosis (ULM). Methods and results: All patients with attempted ULM angioplasty using the Endeavor~(TM) stent have been entered prospectively into a database. Six months follow-up of the first 10 patients (mean age 74 +- 7 years) is available yet. Six patients presented with acute myocardial infarction, 3 patients had a severely reduced left-ventricular function, no patient was in cardiogenic shock. Stent placement involved the aorto-coronary ostium in 2 and the distal bifurcation in 8 patients. Mean number of stents used was 1.1 +- 0.3, mean stent length 17.4 +- 5.7 mm, mean stent diameter 3.8 +- 0.2 mm. Procedural success rate was 100%. Mean clinical follow-up time was 8.7 +- 2.5 months. No patient died. Eight patients underwent control angiography after 7.6 +- 3.3 months. No bypass-operation or target-lesion revascularization was necessary, 2 patients underwent angioplasties of non-target lesions. Conclusion: Left main-stem angioplasty with the Endeavor~(TM) stent is feasible and offers promising results.
