Based on the characteristics of the phase of sedan body concept design, this article addresses the issue of choosing the best structural layout and optimizing main structural members with the help of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), proposes a highly efficient early body development system with ANSYS software as a platform, and discusses the key technological processes in sedan body parametric design. A simplified parametric finite element (FE) model is presented, followed by a generalization of analyzing methods and constraints frequently used in auto body development. Then, a platform for concept design is constructed on the base of ANSYS. Thereby, with the FAW Hongqi CA7220 as an example, the application of concept design in sedan body development is illustrated.
