Digital Manufacturing has developed rapidly in recent years. Machining process simulation accomplishes machining process in computer, and constructs crucial technology for digital manufacturing foundation. This paper restricts attention to NC turning and carries out study on turning process modeling and development of virtual NC turning physical simulation system. A backbone model of turning process is built and clue of it is workpiece microhardness—instantaneous cutting forces—relative vibration—surface roughness. These connecting four factors of machining process construct working thread for simulating system, provide modeling basis for developing physical simulation system. Feature of virtual NC turning physical simulation system is recording, handling and analyze of numerous machining data during physical simulation. Here cutting simulation databases design and data structure of workpiece digital machined surface are used to support system development.
