Estimation of snow properties using multi-parameter SAR

Seasonal snow cover is an important component in investigations of land-surface climate and hydrology. This study summarizes the recent progresses of using multi-parameter SAR in estimating snow properties. These progresses include 1) mapping snow cover, 2) estimating snow wetness, 3) estimating snow density, and 4) estimating snow depth and grain size. We demonstrate these progresses using SIR-C/X-SAR image data that was taken in 1994 in Mammoth Mm., California, U.S.A.
