Activated carbons were widely utilized in industrial applications, such as adsorption, separation, catalysis and environmental protection. However, granular activated carbons are not suitable to deal with streams containing particles such as in the case of flue gas treatment due to high pressure drop resulted from plugging. To overcome the problem, activated carbon honeycombs (ACHs) have been developed. ACHs were originally used as ozone filters in laser printers, and then in VOCS' adsorption. But up to now, ACHs have not been used in the field of flue gas SO_x and NO_x removal. Our earlier work on granular activated carbon supported V_2O_5 catalysts showed high SCR activities and good tolerance to SO_2 poisoning in the temperature range of 180-250°C. These catalysts overcome the problem encountered in industry that the SCR can only be operated at temperatures greater than 350°C to avoid SO_2 poisoning. In this paper, we show new results on catalytic activity of ACHs supported V_2O_5 catalysts in simultaneous SO_2 and NO removal.
