Lightweight compound γ-TiAl is an important intermetallic alloy for aerospace materials to raise the thrust-to-weight ratio. It is not resistant to oxidation and hydrogen permeation, especially when used in hydrogen or methane-burning environments. This research investigates the effect of adding several elements by ion implantation for preventing hydrogen embrittlement at high temperature. The elements studied in this investigation include Nb, V, Cr and Mn, implanted at 50 keV accelerating voltage and at a fluence of 1.0 ×10{sup}(21) ions/cm{sup}2.
