Creep tests were conducted on an AZ91 (Mg-9percent Al-i percent Zn) alloy reinforced with 20 volumepercent A1_2O_3 fibers (Saffil) using a double-shearconfiguration. The experimental results reveal a non-linearity inthe plots of shear strain rate versus shear stress, therebyindicating the presence of a threshold stress. By incorporating athreshold stress into the analysis, it is shown that the results areconsistent with the behavior anticipated for a magnesium solidsolution alloy, including a stress exponent close to 3.
