Various forms of carbon nanofibers (CNF) and multiwalled nanotubes (MWNTs) have been synthesized by C_2H_2-CCVD in this study. Various catalysts were prepared by impregnating support materials in salt solutions. Both Fe_2(SO_4)_3 • 5 H_2O and Fe(NO_3)_3·9H_2O were used as the metal precursors. Typically, 0.1 g of catalyst was used for the growth of nanocarbons. Ar/H_2 mixture was flown over the catalyst as it was heated from room temperature to desired temperature. The reaction began as Ar/H_2 was replaced by C_2H_2/H_2 (10/90 ml/min) and lasted 30 min. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was employed to qualitatively estimate the yield of nanotubes and observe the morphology of the nanotubes.
