Effect of Phosphorous on Catalytic Cracking of C4 Olefines over HZSM-5 Catalyst

Fina Research discloses that propylene can be produced in relatively good selectivity by silicalite-catalysed cracking of an olefin-rich hydrocarbon feedstock. The effects of phosphorus on the properties of ZSM-5 zeolites stimulated significant research efforts over the past years, but no literature reported the effect of phosphorous on catalytic cracking of C4 olefines over ZSM-5. In this paper, a series of HZSM-5 zeolites modified by phosphorous were prepared and characterized, and the catalytic cracking properties of C4 olefins over these zeolites were also investigated. The results showed that ZSM-5 zeolites with certain amount of phosphorous were an excellent catalyst to elevate the selectivity and yield of propylene.
