Production Control as an Enabler for Organizational Changeability - Requirements and First Approaches

Enterprises face a global market with rapidly changing conditions. They must be able to manage this environment successful to stay competitive. One effective way is to design and implement highly flexible production systems and processes. Beside the technological aspect in designing such systems the logistics aspect is of the same importance. But here one can observe great deficits. Especially the conventional Production Control Systems do not allow different types of control principles to handle at the same time in one manufacturing system. The paper presents therefore a new production control approach that is able to satisfy this demand from the organizational perspective. It is called Segmented Adaptive Production Control SAPC and allows to control the two types of make-to-order production and make-to-stock production in one system.
