A mathematical model describes the behaviour of a real system with a defined accuracy and a defined scope using mathematical methods. A complex model is a model that contains the combination of different functional principles, like optics and electronics. An advanced language of technical computing integrates computation, visualisation and programming and allows an effective interactive operation for developing and using models. The development of complex models for studying the product behaviour and for predicting special effects during design and operation is presented by means of the examples of a four-quadrant sun sensor, a laser beam deflection system and the camera function of a rendezvous and docking videometer.
