Design dimension specifications contribute to the manufacturability of a part and must therefore be subjected to optimisation - targeting minimal tolerance stacks in a process plan. As the manufacturing environment may change or be unknown at the design stage and therefore distort the manufacturability of the design, this paper proposes a mathematical approach to re-dimension a design without impairing a part's functionality. The approach focuses on calculation of tolerances for substitute dimensions.
