DEVELOPING REVERSE LOGISTICS DIMENSIONS TO SUPPORT THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY FOR MANUFACTURERS

There is an increasing need to recover value from products from their use phase as a result of increasing legislation, issues of resource scarcity and emerging business models. Reverse logistics is a core process for the recovery. There are economic and environmental drivers for such an activity. The challenge for industry is the absence of models to support the development of reverse logistics operations both in practice and in the literature. Developing reverse logistics dimensions that identify the core features of reverse logistics for product manufacturers is a potential starting point to developing archetypes and maturity models. Here the reverse logistics activities dimensions are derived through the discussion of activities and parameters in different stages of the process of reverse logistics. The stages developed are: the use, collection channel, processes, new life, and commercial stage. This helps to form a holistic guideline for reverse logistics dimensions and categories which will ultimately help in monitoring reverse logistics performance.
