At present the system of digital information from NOAA use for short-term runoff forecasts (Karadarya, Chatkal, Pskem and Akhangaran rivers in Central Asia-regoin) has been established in Glavgidromet of Uzbekistan. The system includes several modules: images receiving and preprocessing; georeferencing and identification of snow covered areas, estimation of snow cover extent over elevation bands based on digital elevation model, database containing daily data on discharge, air temperature and precipitation at the reference climatic stations. This work is performed in the context of long-term joint project with Swiss organizations. The goal of this study is estimation of hydrograph simulation potentials (1 day time increment) based on remote sensing data on snow cover extent and capabilities of geographic information systems. The subject of research is water inflow to Charvak reservoir.
