Basics of Solid Waste Composting

摘要

This paper is an introduction to solid waste composting. Solid waste feedstocks suitable for composting are discussed. A short overview about factors influencing the composting process such as biodegradability of the feedstock, moisture content, oxygen content, material structure and aeration, temperature, nutrients and pH are given, including how these parameters should be controlled during composting. Various composting technologies suitable for handling solid waste such as non-reactor systems, enclosed reactor systems and in-vessel reactor systems are presented. Odor control and compost end-use are also being addressed.
