Study on the Prevention of Oil Migration from Fluorinated Grease

In recent years, the use of fluorinated grease has been expanding in the field of precision instruments because of its excellent properties such as low torque at low temperature, heat resistance, low vapor pressure and plastic compatibility. Particularly for the application to optical instruments among the precision instruments, the least oil migration is required of grease to prevent contaminating components of the instruments. The prevention of oil migration, however, used to be difficult with conventional fluorinated grease. Therefore, we researched how to prevent fluorinated grease from oil migration. We have consequently found that if we add silicone oil to the fluorinated grease, an oil-barrier will be formed by the silicone oil over the material applied with grease and prevent the base oil from running outside. By this formulation, we solved the prevention of oil migration from fluorinated grease.
