Leadership has to fulfill a much larger role with ISO 9000:2000 when compared to their role the 1994 standard. The new standard is based on eight principles which are driven by Customer Satisfaction and which have Leadership at their heart. The Dynamic of the new standard is based on the Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle. The Leadership role in this cycle is explained. Agreeing objectives at Strategic, Functional and Individual levels is the initial planning role of leadership and they must next provide the resources for those objectives to be met. Monitoring of achievement of the objectives then requires the collection of data which must be analyzed so that effective decisions can be made by the leadership. The primary decision making body in the organization is the management review. This body should plan and manage quality in the same way as they plan and manage finances.
