The continual challenges on the paper maker to improve uniformity, runnability and productivity requires new and innovative machinery solutions. Paper machinery equipment suppliers therefor have to look more and more into concepts of technology beginning from the stock preparation area all the way through to the end user. Modular equipment units seem to be an approach to enable machine suppliers as well as paper mills to optimize the hard ware to specific customer needs and by the same token to keep proven components. Benefits are deeper knowledge of the process, continuos improved but well known equipment and manufacturing of these units with the associated cost savings. One major section in this concept is the press. The development itself and results of this development are described in this paper To fulfill these requirements, Voith Paper has developed the One Platform Concept. One Platform is a modular concept that integrates proven machine technologies to maximize quality, performance and productivity. The features of One Platform are: 1. The same basic machine concept for all major graphic paper grades 2. Modular system elements for the specific product quality requirements 3. Suitable for all major fiber sources from virgin fibers up to 100% recycled fibers.
