摘要

Vasco X2M steel is being utilized in the production of critical U.S. Army components. The material is heat treated and shot peened for the purpose of inducing compressive residual stresses on the component surface. Grinding is performed after heat treatment in order to achieve the dimensional tolerances required for the precision components. This paper describes the use of Barkhausen Noise Analysis (BNA) techniques to qualify the heat treatment and shot peening processes and to detect thermal damage due to abusive grinding.
