Entrained air is an extremely damaging problem that results in excessive pump noise, material damage, fluid degradation and increased downtime of fluid power equipment. This is an overview of various methods that may be used to quantify not only the fraction of bubbles in a "bubbly fluid" but also the amount of soluble air in a fluid, which also affects compressibility. Finally, a method that may be used to physically remove air from operating hydraulic systems is described.
