The PID Seesaw and the Power of Analogy

摘要

Using simple pictorial illustrations, this paper explores the power of analogy to aid the understanding process of complex control processes. Taking the example of an electro-hydraulic closed loop position control system, a child’s seesaw is used to explain the function and operation of a Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) control system.
