AS-I Controlled Pneumatic Components

Actuator Sensor Interface (AS-I) is a two-wire field-bus system that was developed in 1991 by a consortium of eleven companies in Germany. It was designed as a simple, low-cost control option for industrial applications. AS-I allows both data and power to run through the same two-wire cable. AS-I technology has been integrated into pneumatic cylinders and valves to create an "intelligent" method of controlling these pneumatic components in a system. An AS-I slave chip is built into each component. This chip is used to electronically actuate the valve. Each slave chip is remotely controlled by the AS-I master or from a higher-level field-bus system via a gateway.
