Dinitrophenyl hydrazine (DNPH) cartridge trap-HPLC method is generally used in a measurement of formaldehyde in indoor air. However, there has been growing recognition that DNPH make the measurements of formaldehyde error under the highly humid condition and it has a suspicion of mutagenicity. To solve these problems, we developed a O-( pentafluorobenzyl)hydroxylamine (PFBOA) tube. But the tube had a problem of transpiration while sampling and transportation. Now, we have successfully developed a new tube used O-(4- trifluoromethoxybenzyl)hydroxylamine (TFBA) and investigated its performances. Under the condition of highly humidity (75%RH), the recovery of formaldehyde was more than 90%, and did not show a decrement formaldoxime during a 3-day preservation at room temperature. In the model test using air of the concentration nearly equal to the value of Japanese guideline for indoor air, the recoveries were 64~127%, in case of 30-min and 24-hr sampling,.
