Explosion in the Flare Stack Seal Pot after Site Power Failure in Ammonia Plant of NFL, Nangal Unit

During Start-Up phase of 900 MTPD Ammonia Production Facility after site power failure, the Flare Stack Seal Pot got ripped off following an explosion inside the vessel The plant had been consistently performing well with Operating load of 110 % until the incidence of October 2010. The Event, the Damage, Causes and preventive measures are discussed in this paper.
