Plasma displays are primarily configured as large-area direct-view television displays in the 32-63-in.-diagonal range. They are especially attractive for HDTV applications, which require high image quality and large diagonals. The reduction of manufacturing costs is the current major technical challenge. This will be met by massive investment in large manufacturing plant capacity and with innovative device structures, circuits, and materials.
