摘要

Bentonite has important physical and chemical properties that allow it to reduce permeability for containment of industrial and municipal water in ponds by use of Geosynthetic Clay Barriers (GCB). Bentonite contains sodium montmoriUonite that controls permeability of liquids through the barrier by hydration and expansion of exchangeable cations associated with clay mineral between platelets, thereby creating long torturous paths for water flow.
