Overview of U.S.Market Developments Efforts of Light Gauge Steel Framing in Residential Construction

The North American Steel Framing Alliance (currently the Steel Framing Alliance or SFA) was established by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) in 1998 for the purpose of enabling and encouraging the widespread, practical, and economic use of light gauge steel framing in residential construction in North America. The SFA developed a comprehensive business plan to guide its efforts. The plan is based on the guiding principle that builders in North America will use steel framing if it offers substantial cost savings, or solves a major problem for them, and involves little financial risk. The SFA focuses its efforts on creating the conditions and environment in which the use of steel framing can be an economically beneficial endeavor for every entity in the residential construction chain of production.
