A System Reference Model for Digital Rights Management

Now that digital content is being widely distributed, inexpensive storage devices are readily available, and high-speed networks are being deployed - the ease with which content can be copied and redistributed weighs heavily on the minds of content owners. One solution to this problem is the introduction of copy protection and content management information that expresses the content owner's wishes and is associated with the content as the content travels over various distribution networks. This paper describes an end-to-end approach for managing, communicating, and enforcing a content owner's rights as the content passes through various devices and networks.
