Expanded beam fiber optic interconnection technology offers high reliability in extreme environments, providing thermal, vibrational, and mechanical stability for reliable transfer of optical signals from one fiber to another. Because the fibers are sealed behind a glass lens, they're protected against dust, moisture, mud, and other contaminants. Enlargement of the light beam at the separable interface minimizes the effects of vibration, dirt, and debris. Applications such as avionics and aerospace, oil and gas research, geophysical work, railway tunnels, military communications, and marine settings are excellent candidates for expanded-beam fiber optic interconnection technology.
