System profitability is a function of maximizing throughput and increasing margin through reduced cost and optimized revenue. Genetics play a key role in maximizing system profitability because it has a major influence on the level of throughput (as well as value of the carcass) within a system. Understanding environmental factors which influence throughput are also critical as this determines the level at which genetic potential is expressed.
