Effects of level of Defusion~R Prime on performance of growing pigs fed diets containing vomitoxin

Deoxynivalenol (DON), commonly called vomitoxin, is a myco-toxin that was detected in much of the corn harvested in the US in 2016.1 Provimi research has shown that pigs fed DON-con-taminated grains can exhibit decreased average daily feed intake (ADFI) and average daily gain (ADG) and poorer feed efficiency (FG) and health. These physiological effects often decrease profitability.2,3 Promote~R Defusion~R Prime is a proprietary product developed by Provimi and formulated with multiple components including feed preservatives to support animal health and growth. In the study described below, Defusion Prime (DP) was fed to growing pigs at 0, 0.25%, 0.375%, and 0.50% in diets that contained measured levels of DON.
