Eliminating PCV2 viremia in neonatal pigs through vaccination of the replacement gilts

Porcine circovims type 2 (PCV2), the causative agent for porcine circovirus associated disease (PCVAD) in growing pigs has also been implicated in reproductive failure of sows.1 In utero infection of piglets with PCV2 may serve as a potential source of PCV2 transmission prior to PCV2 vaccination. The objective of this observational study was to determine the prevalence of PCV2 viremia in pre-suckle piglets from a system that had been vaccinating replacement gilts with Circumvent~R PCV (Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health) for the past four years.
