Compatibility of Enterisol~R Ileitis oral Lawsonia intracellularis vaccine for swine when administered concurrently with parenteral ceftiofur sodium or tulathromycin

Enterisol~R Ileitis (Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., St Joseph, MO), an avirulent live vaccine for swine, is approved for the prevention of porcine proliferative enteropathy (PPE, ileitis) caused by Lawsonia intracellularis (Li). The antibioticsceftiofur1 and tulath-romycin2 are used for treatment of diseases other than ileitis, in the same age range commonly scheduled for ileitis vaccination. Some antibiotics can inactivate live avirulent bacterial vaccines thereby reducing the vaccinal immune response. This double-blinded study was conducted to evaluate potential compatibility of ceftiofur or tulathromycin when administered concurrently with Enterisol Ileitis vaccination.
