Evaluation of Adsero in sow diets on neonatal piglet performance

Adsero is a direct-fed microbial containing specially selected isolates of Bacillus subtilis. These isolates were selected based on their superior inhibition of Clostridi-um perfringens type A and Clostridium difficile via their production of variousbacteriocins. In vitro analysis of Adsero supports its effectiveness against various C. perfringens and C. difficile isolates from scouring piglets, and field evaluations at locations with clostridia challenges as well as at asymptomatic sites have suggested that Adsero may improve piglet performance regardless of the level of clostridial challenge. This study was devised to document piglet performance responses from the supplementation of Adsero to sows during late gestation and lactation in an asymptomatic herd.
