A multicenter efficacy trial of different vaccination strategies against Mycoplasma hyopneumonia in Europe

Respiratory disease is the most important pathology in modern pig fattening in Europe. Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M.hyo) is a key player in the porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC), a strongly multi-factorial complex influenced by several bacteria, viruses, management factors and others. To control the clinical expression of this complex and its negative economic impact on performance, vaccination with M.hyo bacterins is a wide spread practice in European pig farms. M.hyo vaccines are by far the most widely used pig vaccines in Europe.
